Sheffield's economy boosted by new station master-plan

The continued concern to ensure the north of England's economy starts to grow rapidly often concentrates around the opening up of station infrastructure.

An SNC Lavalin's Atkins Business-led consortium has now been appointed to lead the development of the Sheffield Station Master-plan. World-class architects and engineers will work on Sheffield Midland Railway Station, transforming it in preparation for the arrival of HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR).

Atkins - a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group - will work to ensure that passengers have an enhanced experience when using the station but also unlock development potential over the next 20 years in the surrounding area.

Councillor Mazher Iqbal, cabinet member for business and investment at Sheffield County Council, said ' The station is absolutely central to our city centre master-plan vision to deliver new jobs, businesses and opportunities to the region'.

Liam Harrison, Market Director, at Atkins will be speaking at our October Future Cities Forum in London, describing the complexity involved in master-planning the firm's many significant rail projects.

Last June, Atkins launched a warning that companies run a risk on being fined up to £17 million if they are unable to show they have adopted sufficient cyber security measures to protect information systems following new legislation - know as the NIS Directive - in May 2018, which applies to our critical national infrastructure in the UK.
